Southern Rhone Flight

Three 3oz. Pours $16.00

1. 2007 Clefs des Murailles, Vacqueyras, France $8 gl $32 btl

This exceptional Southern Rhône comes from a growers' cooperative winery called Vignerons de Caractère along the Route de Vaison la Romaine in Vacqueyras. The winery was founded 50 years ago and today it has about a hundred families growing grapes for the 3+ million bottles they make. The wine is a blend of Grenache, with Syrah and Mouvedre rounding it out.
This wine shows a bit of spice, with raspberry and bright light fruit, finishing with a little hit of acidity.

2. 2007 Dom. De Piaugier, "Les Briquieres," Sablet, France $9 gl $36 btl

This Southern Rhône estate is situated in the village of Sablet, near Gigondas. It's owned by the Autran family and winemaker Jean-Marc Autran has been at the helm since the mid-1980s.His great grandfather built the cellar in the 1940s and Jean-Marc expanded it in the mid-1990s.
The property comprises approximately 30 hectares of vineyards, a small patch in Gigondas and most of the rest split between the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation and that of Sablet. The vineyards are mature, most being somewhere between 20 years of age on the young side.
The Sablet is a blend of Grenache and Syrah, and shows darker fruit than the first wine, with juicy blueberry and blackberry fruit, a great round mid palate, and a long finish.

3. 2004 Dom. De la Citadelle, Cotes du Luberon, France $7gl $28 btl

In 1989 Yves Riusset-Rouard purchased an ancient provençale farmhouse with 8 hectares of vines and decided to throw all his passion and efforts into creating Domaine de la Citadelle and sculpting a "grand vin" that reflectes the quality and typicity of the Côtes du Luberon appellation, the youngest of the great names of the Rhône Valley. Over twenty years, and through hard work, patience, strict selection of only the best vineyard parcels and by means of his son Alexis who joined him in 1995, Yves Rousset-Rouard has succeeded in creating one of the top domaines in the Côte du Luberon.
This wine is 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 10% Carignan. It shows darker earthy notes, with a little forest floor and black plums, it is also a bit different from the first two wines in that it has a little age, and that is reflected on the finish.
